Frequently Asked Questions

FAQQ: "Novell News for IT Professionals." What is abend.org?
A: Abend.org is a site dedicated to supporting Novell products, including Netware, OES, Groupwise, Bordermanager, Zenworks, Suse, and so on. It is supported freely by Novell network administrators. The site has been around in this incarnation since September 18 2003

Q: What is Novell?
A: Novell helped invent the corporate network in the early 1980s. Netware, Novell's flagship product, is second to none in file and print services. Novell has also created ways to automatically distribute applications, settings and printer drivers. Its other products include a groupware product called Groupwise, a premium groupware product that also has an unsurpassed Document Management System. Among the most innovative products it has created is its directory, formerly called NDS (Novell Directory Services) and now called eDirectory. More recently, Novell has entered into the Linux and open source fields by purchasing Suse and Ximian for their Evolution Groupware package for Linux and Red Carpet, allowing for distribution across Linux platforms.

Q: How do I submit a story/post questions?
A: At the top of every page, you see the abeNd.org logo and a bunch of icons beside it. Put your mouse over each of the icons for a second and you'll see a balloon pop up, indicating the purpose of the icon. The first one is Submit a Story.

Q: : What is the calendar used for?
A: The site/group calendar is intended for the posting of Novell-related training/meetings of any sort from any vendor, local reseller, Novell themselves online or in person. It is open for user groups such as NUI (Novell Users International) or LUG (Linux Users Groups) to post information about their meetings, or any vendor that has a Novell-related training session.

Q: What is the "live novell chat" for?
A: This link will bring you up to a java client that, once you put in a userid & click OK, will drop you into #novell on the efnet (a popular irc network) with usually at least 20 people. Keep in mind this is not a sponsored-by-Novell channel, or hosted by them, but sometimes we do have Novell technical & sales people dropping by. The channel has even had visits from vendors. Note also that the channel is an irc channel where mostly Novell technical chat goes on, but as with any internet based chat room anything could come up.

Q: What goes in the Links section?
A: Post anything Novell-related here. Vendors can even get themselves some free advertising by posting their company in the "3rd party applications" listing.

Q: What kind of things go in the Stories area?
A: The main focus of the site is to bring you the Novell related news stories from all over to one location. You can pull these via RSS as well.

Q: What kind of jobs are posted in the Jobs forum?
A: This is where you can post an opening for a Novell-related job opening in your company or any Novell-related openings you come across. We get visitors from all over the world, so all countries can feel free to have their job postings here.
