How do you think the Attachmate deal will turn out for "Novell"
Well, the marketing can't be any WORSE
Better, the product/support commitment is there
Worse, MS will end up with what is left of Novell’s marketshare & still end up with the patents, leaving the customer as the loser

Norwegian School Highly Recommends EMU for Creating Multiple Staff and Student Accounts

NDS/eDir"EMU is the best tool we have ever used for bulk importing, creating, managing and deleting Novell GroupWise and eDirectory accounts for our staff and students," said Tom Hannigan, Computer Systems Administrator for Kristelig Gymnasium. "EMU is priced competitively and is simple to use. I highly recommend it to other K-12 schools."

    Overview

Kristelig Gymnasium is an Oslo-based K-12 school with 100 staff and 750 students. During the past 10 years, Novell eDirectory and GroupWise have provided the school's directory service and email collaboration platforms.

When it came to finding the best tool for bulk managing user accounts, Kristelig Gymnasium took advantage of Omni's Enterprise User Management Utility (EMU) solution. EMU provides speed and consistency throughout the organisation's user creation and bulk modify processes.

    The Challenge

"Our school needed a tool that would allow us to create and delete batches of 20-30 Novell eDirectory and GroupWise accounts at a time during exam periods," said Tom Hannigan, Computer Systems Administrator for Kristelig Gymnasium. "We keep these accounts separate from our standard student accounts."

"The tool we had been using stopped working after our latest Novell system upgrade and required us to manually re-create the settings we wanted to apply to student accounts. That's when we started looking for an alternative. A quick Google search brought up EMU from Omni."

    The Solution

"One of the things we really like about EMU," continued Hannigan, "is the ability to set up Account Create profiles that simplify and automate our account creation process."

"The tool we were using before didn't offer the same level of simplicity and automation. We used to have to manually set account names, password restrictions, home directory locations, distribution list membership, visibility, volume and size restrictions, account expiry dates, and so on – every time we wanted to batch create accounts."

"Now, we simply import student account information from a CSV file into EMU, load the appropriate profile from a drop-down menu, make any changes that are necessary, click a button, and the eDirectory and GroupWise accounts are generated automatically."

    The Results

"We have found EMU to be an excellent tool for bulk creating and managing our student and staff accounts," said Hannigan. "It was easy to learn. It cost far less than several other products we were considering. And it has the most complete feature set.

"We highly recommend this tool to other schools who are looking for a better way to bulk create and manage their eDirectory and GroupWise accounts."
