Well, the marketing can't be any WORSE
Better, the product/support commitment is there
Worse, MS will end up with what is left of Novell’s marketshare & still end up with the patents, leaving the customer as the loser

Messaging Architects, today announced a definitive agreement to acquire NetMail and take over leadership of the open source Hula Project from Novell. Messaging Architects has been a Novell ISV partner since 1999. The privately held company specializes in the development of Email Security and Compliance Applications that integrate with Novell's GroupWise and eDirectory products.

As an active participant in the Hula Project, which was originally launched with NetMail code contributed by Novell, Messaging Architects has focused on the high scalability of the Hula/NetMail messaging engine to develop its next generation Secure Email Gateway called M+Gaurdian. Announced and shipping as of last week, it is the first product to derive from the Hula codebase and is an example of the direction Messaging Architects will take NetMail moving forward.

Today's agreement was the result of Novell's search for a strong partner to take over leadership of the Hula Project as it focuses efforts on other open source-based collaboration initiatives. With M+Guardian, Messaging Architects demonstrated that it was the perfect candidate to lead the future development of the Hula Project and NetMail for the benefit of the open source community and NetMail customers.

"Messaging Architects recognized the unique power of the Hula code base from the very start of the project and we invested heavily into the development of M+. The Hula-based SMTP server offers the best speed, scalability and cross platform capabilities we have seen," said Pierre Chamberland, CEO of Messaging Architects, "Today we believe that M+Guardian is simply the fastest email scanner on the market - this is a tribute to Novell's strong engineering talent. Our plan is to use this performance to drive innovative edge services such as content filtering, encryption, compliance, and search, all from within a simple to manage, directory driven platform. Key components of these efforts will be contributed to both future versions of NetMail and the Hula Project as we move forward."

"Messaging Architects' plans for the Hula Project coupled with its longstanding dedication to Novell customers provided the assurance we required to entrust the future of NetMail to them," said Kent Erickson, Vice President and General Manager, Workgroup Solutions for Novell. "We are confident that Messaging Architects has the engineering talent and service ethic to deliver the innovations and support NetMail customers need to help drive their business forward."

Under the terms of the Agreement, Messaging Architects will become the copyright holder of the Hula Project and will also own all of the related trademarks and intellectual property for NetMail and the Myrealbox.com free mail server. Messaging Architects will release a new version of NetMail during September 2007. This new version will incorporate all of the innovative features that were added as part of the M+Guardian product. This includes industry first's such as application level clustering, eDirectory-based fail-over, and load balancing that leverages the advanced kernel performance of Suse Linux.

For more information, migration details and support, NetMail customers can visit Messaging Architects web site at www.messagingarchitects.com/netmail or contact the company at +1-514-392-9220 ext 220.
